Men’s Watch Review

With JORD Wood Watches

Happy December 5th!!

Yes, I’m one of those people who love Christmas so much that the moment November ends and we enter into December, every day is a countdown to Christmas. December is a wonderful month, full of family, warmth, cozying up with your favourite people, festivities, great food, the giving and receiving of gifts and just an overall vibe of celebrating together as a community of people. I love it.

So, when JORD contacted me to see if I’d be interested in reviewing one of their watches, it was super exciting and it felt like such a great way to welcome Christmas! They asked if I’d like to review a men’s watch or are woman’s watch, and in true Christmas spirit, I opted to review one of their mens watches (although they do have some gorgeous women’s watches, too) because I wanted to give back in some small way to the number one guy in my life, the guy who’s always willing to be my photographer or model at the drop of a hat, the guy who waits patiently for me to take photographs of our food before he gets to eat it, the guy who points out every dog he ever sees to me (because what more could I ever ask for in a man??) and after looking through their selection of watches, I could tell that they’d suit Matt so much!

This is a great Christmas present, and (in my opinion) the absolute best part is that it’s ethically sourced and produced. The wood used to make the watches is recycled from old furniture. All of the watches are treated with natural substances (no hazardous chemicals in sight!) both for the sake of those working on the watches, and for the environment.

The word JORD (pronounced “yoad” as in “toad”) is a Swedish word meaning “earth”. JORD have told me that their mission is to make beautiful watches that come as close to being from the “earth” as possible! The watches are also all made carefully by hand, not machines or in sweatshops, which is an amazing reason to support the company (let’s boycott unsustainable and unethical consumerism!!) With that in mind, let’s get on with the review 🙂

We chose the Dover Series watch in Koa and Black (which you can find here), because we love the earthy feel of the shade of the wood, and Matt was really into the fact that you can see the mechanics of the watch working away behind the watch face (I’m not really that interest in how things work, but even I have to admit, that’s pretty darn cool)

The watch arrived in a super cool wooden case, with a cute little compartment underneath in which you can store the protector serum (which comes with the watch) for safe keeping. The case itself was pretty big, and the watch was really well protected inside of it!

When the watch arrived, Matt was actually away on a trip with his workplace, but I couldn’t wait for him to get home to have a little explore of the watch! I made a video of me unboxing it and uploaded it to my Youtube channel, and I’ll put the video here, too (skip to 2 minutes and 6 seconds in if you only want to see the unboxing!)

As you can see in the video, I loved the smell of the watch (which is a pretty weird thing to notice haha, but I smell everything so it was instinctual for me to give it a good sniff!!) that might be due to the fact that the only airborne allergen that I’m not allergic to is tree pollen, so maybe it reminded my body of being able to breathe… either way, it was a good smell!

Since Matt wasn’t around to try the watch on himself, I got my dad to give it a go (and of course, I couldn’t resist trying it on myself, too! The watch is a lot lighter than I had expected it to be, given its size (as my dad mentioned in the video) and has a really cool, laid back but still smart look to it.

I gave Matt the watch yesterday when he came back from his work trip, and he really liked it! The watch came with extra links just in case it was a bit too small, as well as the little stick things that you use to remove links, so it’s fully adjustable (we’re going to have to remove a link before he can wear it as it’s a tad big on him right now). The watch itself suits him so much, he even said he wants to wear it on our wedding day (it matches his suit [navy] and shoes [brown] really well!) and it would be pretty awesome if we could get one for each groomsman, too.

JORD have made it so that if you’re interested in getting your own watch, you can get a $25 gift card for their store by clicking this link (you don’t have to buy the watch to get the gift card!! So you can get it, then browse around their store for while) The giveaway will be running until 31st Januray 2017. To receive the $25, just click the link here (or above) and you’ll be emailed the code (which will expire on the 14th March 2017).

As you guys probably know, I’m a big supporter of ethical practices when it comes to sustainability and living compassionately. I’m only ever going to support companies that I genuinely love and endorse personally 🙂

If you get a watch for yourself or as a gift for someone else, let me know how you find it and which one you get!
