“By wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; And by knowledge the rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches.”
Today is May 11th – how is it almost the middle of May already!? It feels like just last week that I was starting my final year of university, and now I’ve finished all of my undergrad assessments, handed in my dissertations, and am pretty much just waiting to graduate (Hooray!!) I can’t quite believe how fast this past academic year has gone.
It’s so true that when you’re busy and have lots of exciting (and somewhat stressful) things coming up, time seems to just disappear into nowhere and these events get closer and closer each time you blink. It’s only two months until I get married, which means I have 2 months to get the house ready, and to finish planning the wedding (not to mention applying to jobs, and thinking about ‘adult stuff’ like what career I want to have, and how I’m going to pay the mortgage and bills!!) but that’s a whole other blog post…
It’s always been a dream of mine to do up a house, to decorate it the way I want to and to make it all cozy and nice and pretty. Now that I actually have a house and I can do just that, I’m all over Pinterest and my head is full of ideas for each room in mine and Matt’s cute little home. We’ve pretty much finished the living room, since Matt has already moved in we wanted to get that sorted first so that he had a nice place to chill out when he came home from work, and everything in the house is definitely functional and in working order! So, now that I’ve finished my uni work and am in that limbo between being a student and finding a job, my days are (hopefully) going to free up and I’ll have more time to focus on actually decorating and making the house look nice ready for when I move in when we get married!
This blog post will consist of images I’ve found on Pinterest of what I’d absolutely love the house to look like/what my dream home looks like. Enjoy!!
How adorable is this room!? On Monday, we’re stripping the wallpaper in the master bedroom and painting the walls white, and then we’ll change up the flooring (I’m thinking dark wood). The rug we currently have in the living room is very similar to the one in this photo, so we’ll probably change that up a bit, but I really love the simple, clean look of having a predominantly black and white rug! Also, if you know me at all, then you’ll know how obsessed I am with plants and greenery. I think this photo might be a tad overkill, but I really want to fill my room with life and plants just clear the air and make me feel so relaxed. I can’t wait to pick out a few cute plants with Matt for our bedroom!!
I also love this bedding so so much!!! That colour pink on the inside of the duvet is my favourite colour ever and I’m definitely going to feature it in our bedroom. Also, the triangle mirrors are such a cute touch, I looooove anything that’s a little bit quirky or unusual!
Moving on to bathroom ideas – our bathroom is actually pretty small, so I’ve been trying to look for cute bathrooms that don’t use a lot of space (I’m thinking of probably replacing the bath with a shower so that there is actually room to dry off and get dressed inside the bathroom!) Here are some cute bathrooms I found on Pinterest that I’d love to model our bathroom on:
I just love the blue patterned tiling with the gold/copper shower head, and the little shelf cut into the wall for space is genius!! Also, if you can’t tell by now, I love white, clean walls (with maybe one wall with a splash of colour to shake things up a bit) and wood. I don’t know why, but I just think it looks so much better than coloured walls, especially because it draws the eye to the accentual pieces in the room, which you can change up whenever your heart (or, more realistically, your bank balance) desires! With white walls, you can change your room as your design preferences and style changes, without the upheaval of having to repaper/repaint an entire room!
So, even though I don’t quite know what I want to do with my life career-wise, yet, I do know that whatever it is I end up doing, I really want it to be a ‘work-from-home’ type setup. I really do thrive when I’m working independently, when my creativity isn’t boxed in by the walls of an office, when I can work from the comfort of wherever I feel most inspired… which sounds like a dream/unrealistic I guess, but to be honest, who ever decided that the most productive, creative, professional, and top-quality work must be produced inside an office full of stressed out, over-worked, bored people? I know at least for me personally, the best work will be produced when I am enjoying the work that I’m doing, and the environment that I’m in! Anyway, again, that’s a whole other blog post (I tend to ramble, apologies!! It’s a habit left over from the English Literature half of my degree, and the ‘overthinking everything that ever briefly enters my mind’ is left over from the philosophy section of my degree!) My point is, I want an office room in my house, and I want it to be pretty, and clean, and calming, and cute. like me, ha! 😉
How perfect do these office rooms look!? I loooove the white walls (yet again!) I also love the little touches of greenery dotted throughout. Ive seen quite a few photos now of small chairs with a (hopefully faux) sheepskin draped over them, and I just love the whole look of it, so I’m definitely going to incorporate that into at least one of the rooms in our house. Just writing this blog post is making me so excited to decorate!
I think I’ll leave it there for now, otherwise this blog post is going to get really really long!! I’ll post my hallway/stairway, kitchen and living room ideas in part two of this blog post next week. What are your favourite design trends? I’d love to have some more inspiration!
